About The Change Place Founder, Karla Reiss

I founded The Change Place after more than 20 years working with organizations who struggled with change. I've always been someone who thrived on change. I seek it and am energized by it. Yet, I saw organizations fail at efforts to change - time after time. I saw money, time, effort and energy wasted. I saw morale drop and instead of making progress, people often went backwards instead of forward. I worked with more than 50 organizations who had the best intentions, but lacked the knowledge, skill and persistence to make lasting change.

I discovered the powerful process of coaching & discovered the key to change. I decided to make a major change myself and make the leap from employed person to consultant. I enrolled in and completed professional coach training at the Institute for Professional Empowerment Coaching, based in Manalapan, New Jersey and launched The Change Place in 2002. My experiences also include working in sales, publishing and the insurance field.

The bulk of my professional career was in the education field. As Coordinator of Professional Development at Western Suffolk Board of Cooperative Education Services, I designed and developed professional learning opportunities for administrators and teachers in numerous districts in Long Island, New York. As Director of Planning and Funding at Southern Westchester Board of Cooperative Education Services, I again worked with administrators and teachers to design continuous improvement plans for a region that included 35 school districts. I worked with both high-needs school districts as well as wealthier, low-need districts. A vision emerged. My vision was for school systems, and other organizations and individuals, to have a system of ongoing, customized support to help them reach their personal or professional goals.

My own personal journey through change has led me to live and work in beautiful Boulder, Colorado. I can assure you that lasting change is possible, and best achieved through the skill and support of a professional coach!
